דרגת הגנה IP:

דרגת ההגנה מורכבת תמיד משתי ספרות המגדירות 2 הגנות שונות. הספרה השמאלית מייצגת את דרגת ההגנה מפני מגע אנושי כאשר 1 זה המינימום ו- 6 מקסימום. הספרה הימנית מגדירה את דרגת האטימות לנוזלים כאשר  כאן 1 זו דרגת המינימום ו- 7 היא דרגת המקסימום.

דוגמא: IP66 נחשב לטוב ביותר בעבור אפליקציות רפואיות.

מתג לשונית (Reed Switch):

מתג הלשונית הוא מנגנון חיווי המותקן בבוכנה ומסונכרן עם יחידות הבקרה המובחרות של לינאק. המתג פועל על עיקרון השדה המגנטי כאשר על גלגל השיניים מותקן דיסק עם 8 קטבים מגנטים שנקרא ע"י ה-Reed Switch, המותקן צמוד לגלגל השיניים. המתג מתורגם לאותות הנשלחים לתוכנה ביחידת הבקרה. המנגנון מאפשר בעצם שליטה ובקרה על סיבוב הבורג וכך יחידת הבקרה מסוגלת לחזור למצבים שונים במהלך הניתנים לתכנות. תפקיד נוסף למנגנון הוא תמיכה בתנועה מקבילה של מספר בוכנות בסינכרון מלא.

סטטור (Stator):
מערכת סלילים המלופפת סביב ליבה פרומגנטית (Ferromagnetic Core) הקבועה במקומה.

המרחק בין החריטות על התבריג.

רוטור (Rotor):
ציר העובר בתוך סלילי הסטטור ועליו מלופפים סלילים. ציר זה חופשי להסתובב.
      ש
שגם (Spline):

בבוכנות לינאק, מנגנון בטיחות. מצוי בעיקר במיטות רפואיות. מאפשר פעולות דחיפה (פתיחה) ונעילה בלבד. מונע מעיכה של עצמים ע"י הבוכנה. כלומר, משיכה (סגירה) של המהלך למצב התחלתי מתבצעת רק באמצעות שני גורמים: 1. פקודת הורדה ביחידת שליטה 2. משקל המופעל על הבוכנה- ללא משקל על הבוכנה או בהפרעה חיצונית הבוכנה לא תמשוך ולא תנוע חזרה.

      A
Ambient:
The temperature of the space surrounding the motor. Generally, motors are designed to operate in a temperature of 40°C or less.
Anti-racking control (Schock Metall):

Special rack and pinion device in linear slides to locate the retainer in a defined position during movement.  In addition, a similar rack and pinion device is used in our pocket door and drawer systems

Automatic Reset:
Thermal protector automatically reconnects power to motor following cooling period. Do not use in situation where unexpected restart would be hazardous.
Accumulator:
A container in which fluid is stored under pressure to provide a source of fluid power
 
Adhesive, Pressure Sensitive:

A type of adhesive which in dry form is aggressively tacky at room temperature. It has the capability of promoting a bond to dissimilar surfaces on contact, with pressure.

Automatic Coil Unwinder (ACU):

A device used to unwind a coil of material.

      B
Ball-bearing slide:

The basis of the Schock telescopic and linear motion technology, a combination of cold rolled steel profiles with precision balls which run in retainers

Braking:

The mechanical and/or electrical mechanism available to provide instant stopping or slowing of a motor or gear-motor to prevent or reduce over-travel. Depending on the type of brake selected it can also provide a degree of holding torque.

Bar Plate:

A hardened steel plate, either 1/16 or 1/8 inch in thickness, used to cut against.

Bevels:

In reference to die cutting blades, the bevel or bevels of the cutting edge determine how a blade penetrates the material being die cut. The bevel on a die blade is identified by the number of degrees on the bevel or as an inside bevel or outside bevel. Some steel rule blades have a double bevel for certain cutting applications.

Bolster Plate:

A steel plate mounted to the press bottom plate for mounting the die cutting package or die set.

Brake Shoe:

A curved piece of aluminumA curved piece of aluminum with a lining used to prevent the Micrometer Stop from moving during operation.

      C
Capacitors:

It is critical to operation performance and motor life to specify the correct capacitor with motor selection. Capacitor ratings to HP ratings will vary with different brands and applications.

Carrier-plate travel:
Maximum distance which the carrier plate of a linear slide covers between the two end positions of the outer slide profile
Cathodic edge protection (Schock Metall):

Chemical and physical process which protects the cut edges of sendzimir zinc-plated coil steel

Cycle (Slides):
The unit derived from one opening and one closing movement of a telescopic slide or linear slide. All Schock slides are internally tested with the weight capacity to a minimum of 100,000 cycles
C.C.D. (Charge Coupled Device):

A camera system using optical lenses.

C.C.D. Registration:
A multi-axis system which uses the C.C.D. optical vision system to achieve a high grade of accuracy in registering the cut to the print.
Chase:

(A). A rectangular metal frame in which type and plates are backed up for letterpress printing.

(B). A metal frame which holds dies together under pressure.

Close Tolerance (Preco):

The term "close tolerance" means something different to a number of industries, according to its standard. When PRECO uses the term close tolerance in reference to die cutting, it means the ability to achieve a machine repeatable registration accuracy of ± .001 inch (25 microns) or better. In the reference to PRECO screen printing systems, close tolerance means the ability to achieve a machine repeatable registration accuracy of ± .002 inch (50 microns) or better.

Coil Printing:
A term synonymous with roll-to-roll printing.
Continuous Mode:
A press control mode whereby automatic cycling is maintained by the control system once stroking is manually initiated by the operator.
Cutting Pads:

A cutting pad is used when "into" cutting and is made of composition rubber, polypropylene or nylon in thicknesses up to 2 inches. The cutting pad is a replaceable item and when the cutting surface becomes worn in the die cutting process it must be resurfaced to create a new cutting surface.

      D
Duty Cycle :
The relationship between operating and rest time.
Deflection:
Acceptable level difference between a loaded and unloaded slide in extended position, measured at the front end of the slide with an evenly distributed load
Detent:
Device which secures one section of a slide in position. In contrast to positive locking, the resistance of a defined, extending or closing force is sufficient to activate or release the detent
Dynamic load capacity (weight capacity) - (Slides):

Maximum load of a vertically mounted pair of slides when extended, using all available mounting positions. The stated load values relate to a minimum 100,000 cycles. A significantly higher load rate is possible with a lower number of cycles. A horizontal installation would considerably reduce the load rate, by up to 75%

Die:
The tooling used in a press for shearing, punching, forming, drawing, or assembling metal or other materials.
Die Mounting Plate:
A steel plate mounted directly to the ram or bolster plate or to a spacer plate mounted to the ram or bolster plate. Used for mounting steel rule dies in the press.
Die Set:
Sometimes referred to as a Die Shoe. Usually consists of four pins, used in X-Y or X-Y-? machines for mounting steel rule dies.
Direct Drive:
A style of roll feed that only one of the rollers are driven by the motor, and the second roller is an idler.
Double Drive:
A style of roll feed in which both the top and bottom rollers are driven.
Driver Roller:
The roller on a roll feed which is connected to the motor shaft, usually the bottom roller, by way of a coupling or gear train.
Driven Roller:
The roller on a roll feed which is powered by the driver roller, usually the top roller, by way of a gear train or free wheeling on top of the driver roller.
      E
Electro-Luminescent (EL) Display:
EL displays, or lamps, provide an even or uniform area of light in a low-power, solid-state form. There are several ways to manufacture EL, but generally, types with screen-printed or laminated components are supported by a polyester-based substrate, for convenience purposes.
Emergency Stop (Preco):
A large red mushroom head button marked "Emergency Stop", used in an emergency to remove all control power from the PRECO machine.
      F
Full-Load :

The minimal speed an induction motor operates under rated load output torque. Full load will vary depending upon the rating and characteristics of the specific motor and will be less than the synchronous speed.

Full extension (Slides):
Extension greater or equal to 100% of slide length
Fiducial:
A mark or identifier, which, in the case of roll-to-roll screen printing or die cutting on PRECO equipment is used to determine an exact reference location to the image to be treated. A typical fiducial, or pair of fiducials for x-y-? register is picked up by sensors that determine where the marks are, in regard to where they should be after a correcting movement takes place. This movement may be either the substrate, or the screen frame or cutting tool. Most often the sensors are either fiber optic, or CCD (charge couple device) camera vision optics.
Floating Bolster:
A steel plate floating on an air cushion, used with X-Y and X-Y-? registration systems.
Fiber Optic Cable:
A cable filled with many small glass fibers used on machines with photo electric registration to carry light into the die area and the reflected light back to the registration system.
Filter/Regulator:
A device that is used to limit air pressure and remove debris from the pneumatic system of the press.
      H
Heavy Duty Roll Feed (H.R.F.):
An independent light metals unit usually used to automate a metal stamping press or sheeting knife system.
Hydraulic Filter Element:
A device used to remove debris from the hydraulic system of the press.
      I
Independent Roll Feed (I.D.F.):
An independent unit usually used to automate a mechanical press, screen printer, or sheeting knife system.
Idler Roller:
A non-powered secondary roller used on a single drive type roll feed or roller used to help in pulling a webbing off of a backing.
      K
Knock Out Table:
A table mounted to the outbound side of the press. This table is used to mount boards with cut-outs for knocking out parts as the material runs across to the #3 roll feed and/or matrix winder.
Kiss Cut:

A type of die cutting in which only the top layer of two layers of material is cut.

      L
Lateral stability (Slides):
Dimension for lateral deflection of an extended telescopic slide
Load rate:
Synonym for dynamic load capacity (weight capacity).
Loss of extension (Slides):
Synonym for carrier-plate travel
Line Width and Pitch:
A printed wire circuit with a number of wires oriented in the same direction, are usually of a certain uniform width and spacing between each wire. The ability to screen print thin wires with a fine pitch or distance between them is largely a function of how the screen is made. Once this has been achieved, it is the screen printing machine's responsibility to control registration of succeeding layers and to fine-adjust the coating thickness as needed. Also called "trace and space", or combinations of these words.
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD):

A type of display used on the RFC, SBC, SBCIII, and MACIII Controllers to view the different parameters.

      M
Mounting:

The mounting position may affect shaft loading and the performance of the optional motor brakes. The relative position of the gear-motor to the application will dictate certain design parameters.

MACIII (Multi Axis Controller):
The type of control unit used on fiber optic X-Y-? registration systems.
Manual Mode:
A press cycle control mode whereby the ram cycles automatically as long as the operator maintains actuation of the palm buttons.
Matrix Winder:

A unit usually mounted to the knockout table and used to pull the web off of a release liner.

Membrane Switch:
The American Society for Testing of Material (ASTM) subcommittee on Membrane Switches defines a membrane switch as "a momentary switch device in which at least one contact is on, or made of, a flexible substrate." Typically, this contact point is located on a material such as a polyester, or similar substrate.
Micrometer Stop:

An adjustable device, on top of the press, used to positively control the down limit of the ram.

Micrometer Stop Lock:
Using brake shoes, it keeps the micrometer stop from moving.
Motor (Preco):
A device used to convert electrical or air power into a rotational force. 1. Pump Motor - used to drive the hydraulic pump. 2. Stepper Motor - used to drive the rollers of the roll feeds or move the bolster in the Y or Theta-axis.
      N
Number of cycles (Slides):
Number of movements during the service life of a telescopic slide or linear slide. One opening and one closing movement corresponds to one cycle
      O
Overhung Load :
The side or radial force applied at right angles to a drive motor, gear-motor or reducer shaft. The bearing and shaft must support this force while transmitting power.
      P
Partial extension:
Extension approximately 75% of slide length
Positive locking:
Mechanical locking of an extended or closed profile of a telescopic slide. The lock can be released by actuating the locking mechanism, either by hand or mechanically
Positive stop:
Synonym for stop
Palm Buttons:

The buttons used to start the press.

Photo Electric Box (P.E.Box):

A box used in conjunction with a fiber optic cable for the purpose of registration.

Pins:
Steel posts on which the ram moves up and down.
Piston:
A device used to convert hydraulic power to mechanical power. Used to push the ram down and pull the ram up.
Point of Operation:

The area where the material is actually positioned and work is performed during any process such as shearing, punching, forming, drawing, or assembling.

Pressure Relief Valve:
A device that is used to control the pressure of the hydraulic fluid from one place to another.
      Q
Quick separation system:
Special function which enables one slide profile to be detached, or released from the remaining component by pressing a latch

Pressure Relief ValveQuick Change Die Clamps (Preco):
Pneumatic clamps used to mount standardized die boards in the platen without the use of tools.
      R
Rotation:
Direction in which shaft rotates clockwise, counter-clockwise or reversing.
Roll-forming technique:
A process refined by Schock for forming slide profiles from coil steel. Creating ball tracks with close tolerances is essential for good running characteristics
RAM:
A flat plate that is attached to the piston and moves up and down.
Roll Feed Controller (RFC):
A type of control head used on IRF's and HRF's.
      S
Sleeve Bearings :

Important when low noise is critical. Can be mounted in any position (shaft-up or shaft-down).

Slide:
Synonym for ball-bearing slide, telescopic slide, linear slide, rail, glide
Slide travel:
Distance which a partial or full extension slide covers from the closed to the extended position
Stop (Slides):
Device at the end of the slide rails restricting the travel distance preventing the moving components from separating from the profiles
Safety Interlock:
A switch used to shut all power off when a door or guard is opened or removed.
Safety Block:

A prop that, when inserted between the upper and lower dies or between the bolster plate and the face of the ram, prevents the ram from falling of its own dead weight.

Screen Printing:
A process by which a printing composition or "ink" is transferred to a substrate through a mesh that is usually supporting a stencil for the intended design.
Single Board Computer (SBCIII):

A version of the SBC control unit used on PRECO presses. Used on "X" registration and non-registration systems.

Single Cycle:

One complete cycle of the press from the initial (open) position through the closing or work performing position and a return to the initial position.

Spring Steel Cutting Plate:

A plate 1/16 inch in thickness made of spring steel used to cut against.

Stacker:

An automated device on which cut parts are stacked and shuttled out for easy operator removal. Typically mounted to the knockout table.

      T
Torque:

Typically measured in inch-pounds, torque is the twisting force applied to the output shaft of a motor or gear-motor.

Torque Load :

The maximum torque produced by a running motor without a sudden decrease in speed and power.

Thermal Protector :

The automatic shut-off device built into the motor, that senses excessive temperature due to overloading or start failure.

Telescopic slide:
Synonym for slide, ball-bearing slide. Generic term for partial and full extension slides
Theta-Axis:
The third axis of registration on the PRECO punch press. This is the clockwise and counter-clockwise rotational movement of the floating bolster
      W
Web (Preco):
In reference to diecutting, the scrap material which is left around the edges of parts after they have been die cut.
Web Printing:
A term synonymous with roll-to-roll printing.
      X
X-Axis (Preco):
The first axis of registration on the PRECO punch press. This is the feed direction of the material.
X-Balance:
A type of registration which uses two sensors to balance both sides of a mark.
      Y
Y-Axis (preco):

The second axis of registration on the PRECO punch press. This is the axis that runs across the web or strip - 90 degrees to the X-Axis.
